Jeff Behrends joins the Illinois State University faculty as an assistant professor in the Department of Philosophy. He holds a B.A. in Philosophy and English from Loyola University in Chicago and an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Wisconsin- Madison.
Dr. Behrends has published articles in Pacific Philosophy Quarterly, Journal of Ethics and Social Philosophy, and The Journal of Value Inquiry and has presented his research at a wide range of conferences, both in the United States and abroad. At present, his research is focused on the question of how facts that constitute reasons for action acquire their reason-giving force, and also on the question of whether learning the details of our evolutionary history undermines support for realist theories of morality.
In his spare time, Dr. Behrends devotes a lot of energy to baseball – mostly in the form of enjoying a craft beer while watching the Reds, and daydreaming of a possible life in which he roams centerfield, bats leadoff, and leads his beloved Reds to championship after championship. Other favorite activities include cooking and playing board games with his wife, Gina, also joining the Department of Philosophy this semester.
