My research focuses on animal shelters and sanctuaries -- specifically, how volunteer work at sanctuaries shapes lifestyle choices regarding animals (as food, companions, etc.) , animal cruelty among animal rescue workers, and the challenges and rewards experienced by those who work at animal sanctuaries/rescue organizations. I also explore in my research cohabitation and other family practices and policies, including licensed domestic partnerships, civil unions, same-sex marriage, and covenant marriage.
