Section of Constitution Trail closed permanently
January 20th, 2012 by Amanda Pigott
Normal–The Constitution Trail RR crossing at the AMTRAK Station will be permanently closed to all traffic beginning Monday, January 23, 2012.
Closure at this time is required to complete the Uptown Plaza landscaping project associated with Uptown Station. Until further notice Constitution Trail will be detoured at Phoenix Street on the south side of the RR tracks, and at the north side of Uptown Circle on the north side of the RR tracks.
Signs will be posted indicating a detour route using the south side of West Phoenix Avenue, west side of Broadway, north side of Beaufort Street and Uptown Circle. Bicyclists are urged to walk their bikes on the sidewalks on Beaufort Street and Uptown Circle, or ride in the roadway.
The above detour will be in effect until the new routing of Constitution Trail along the north side of the Parkinson Street parking lot, crossing the tracks on the west side of Linden Street, and then proceeding west in the Beaufort Street alley along the RR tracks to Uptown Plaza, is completed later this spring. The re-routing of Constitution Trail is required to accommodate Illinois High-Speed Rail.
