Adobe Announces New Creative Cloud Apps, Abandons Creative Suite

Today Adobe announces that it will no longer produce software in the Creative Suite but rather move that functionality to web-based “Creative Cloud” applications. It’s no surprise that this has happened.  All major manufacturers of software are moving towards similar models.  Most notably is the Apple App Store integration with Mac OS and new versions of Microsoft Office 365.

Our campus community will be challenged by the impact of this change.  Will student’s have to maintain their own subscriptions?  Will labs have any of the Adobe Creative Suite installed?  We are at the mercy of Adobe and the other manufacturers and will have to see how they shape our future.

DIY Web builder Weebly launches an Android app, along with a mobile and HTML5 site creator – The Next Web

I use weebly for my personal business and it’s a pretty good tool.  Sure it’s very restrictive but it allowed me to put something up really fast and is also easy enough that my wife (who is admittedly not very tech savvy) can help too.  Even for someone like me that is more than capable of building a fully functioning site from scratch, this has a purpose!

Tips on how to coach your website clients | TechRepublic

I love that this article reinforces what we discuss in class.  What steps can you take to avoid a bad experience by your client?  Remember, it’s you as the designer that has EVERYTHING to lose!  I’ve worked at a place that stopped focusing on their customers and it didn’t take long for them to alienate their client base.  It’s a really bad feeling to hear crickets (literally) where there should be customers.
