Janell Gardner and Emma Lipka

This semester CASNews was written and edited by two students in the College of Arts and Sciences: Janell Gardner, a student in the Department of English, and Emma Lipka, who is double-majoring in English and public relations. Lipka completed her assignment as part of the requirements for the School of Communication’s field experience program, which is coordinated by Mr. Tom Lamonica. Gardner was enrolled in an English course taught by Dr. James Kalmbach. The class, English 398—Professional Practice: Internship in English, places students in internships where they receive hands-on experience to develop their skills. Working under the direction of Assistant Dean Deb Fox, the students interviewed faculty, staff, students, and alumni and wrote many of the stories that appeared in CASNews. Together, they produced 15 issues of CASNews containing nearly 100 articles.

Gardner will graduate from Illinois State University on May 9. Lipka will continue her studies at Illinois State in the fall. “I am very lucky to have had these two talented students working in the College office this semester,” said Fox. “They did an enormous amount of work on behalf of the College of Arts and Sciences, and we have all enjoyed getting to know them.” This is the last issue of CASNews for this semester. CASNews will begin its summer schedule of monthly publication on June 16.
