Spiotto to Speak at Actuarial Event

ISU seal CAS wideJames Spiotto, an expert in the field of municipal finance and public pension plans, will speak at the 2014 Research Event of the Actuarial Program of Illinois State University at 4 p.m. Monday, May 5, at the University’s State Farm Hall of Business, room 357. This event is free and open to the public. 

Spiotto is a nationally known legal specialist on municipal finance, who was involved in the creation of the first municipal bond fund. A practicing attorney and consultant for years, he recently retired as managing director of Chapman Strategic Advisors, which provides educational and strategic insights on municipal finance.

During his career, Spiotto testified before the U.S. Senate and House Judiciary Committees in conjunction with the amendments to the Bankruptcy Code involving municipal bankruptcy. He is the co-author of The Law of State and Local Government Debt Financing, and the author of Municipalities in Distress? and Primer on Municipal Debt Adjustment.

Spiotto has been honored with the National Federation of Municipal Analysts’ Municipal Industry Contribution Award.
