The Fulbright Scholar Program has named Dr. Carl Wenning of the Physics Department a Fulbright Specialist Candidate. The Fulbright program promotes linkages between U.S. scholars and professionals and their counterparts at host institutions overseas. Fulbright Specialists serve as expert consultants on curriculum, faculty development, institutional planning, and related subjects in 140 countries worldwide. Specialist candidates are eligible for U.S. State Department grants to visit overseas institutions for a period of two to six weeks annually for a period of five years. Prior to being named a Specialist Candidate, Wenning worked extensively in both Chile and Indonesia.
Wenning holds an Ed.D. in Curriculum & Instruction from Illinois State University. He was director of the Physics Teacher Education program from 1994 though 2008. The ISU Physics teacher education program was recognized in 2012 by the Physics Teacher Education Coalition as one of the largest and most innovative such programs in the USA. The American Association of Physics Teachers recognized the program as “exemplary” in 2000. Wenning received the CAS Dean’s Award for Outstanding Teaching in 2008, and the inaugural Outstanding University Teacher Award (Category II) in 2000.
