TV-10, the television program at Illinois State University, is preparing to welcome back alumnus, Evan Allen-Gessesse. The well-respected filmmaker will be visiting campus on Tuesday, Oct. 29 to address the school’s community. Allen-Gessesse is the co-host of LOCAL, USA, a new 30-minute documentary anthology series that begins airing this week on more than 150 PBS stations across the country. It will air locally on WTVP (Peoria) on October 21 at 5 p.m. He will screen an episode and will then take questions from the audience.
Allen-Gessesse graduated from ISU with a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism in 2006 and was an anchor and reporter for TV-10 News. He also played defensive back for the ISU Football Team. During his senior year, he spent a week in Louisiana with a camera and shot Standing on Common Ground: My Spring Break in New Orleans, which was nominated for an EMMY Award in 2007.
Evan Allen-Gessesse is now a producer, writer, director, and photographer, working in both Los Angeles and Chicago. He wrote and directed the short film “Eric’s Haircut” in 2011. He has also worked as a production assistant for PBS, and on the sets of Batman: The Dark Knight and America’s Got Talent.
Allen-Gessesse is set to discuss his broadcast experience and career in cinematography during a speaking panel that will honor his presence. The featured discussion will take place in Room 148 of Fell Hall at 7 p.m. This session is free and open to the public.
