CAS alumnus Andrew Purnell ’57 is the 2013 Illinois State University alumni homecoming king. Alumni homecoming queen is Lois Young ’60 of Bloomington.
Purnell earned a bachelor’s degree in math and a master’s degree in educational administration in 1970. He is a retired teacher and administrator. He also served in the U.S. Army. He is one of the founding members of the Illinois State University Black Colleagues Association (ISUBCA).
Purnell is the 2008 recipient of the E. Burton Mercier Service Award. He has volunteered many hours and was the scholarship chair for ISUBCA and a past member of the Alumni Board of Directors. He is in the Half Century Club.
Young has a bachelor’s degree in family and consumer sciences and is a retired teaching assistant for Unit 5 schools in Normal. She is an active member of the Family Consumer Sciences Professionals of McLean County and also is a member of the Fell Hall Friends class of 1960. She is on the Half Century Club Steering Committee.
