CAS International Travel Support is an internal award intended to promote high-quality research, scholarship, and creative activity by tenured and tenure-track faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences at Illinois State University. It is intended to supplement travel funds provided to a faculty member by his or her department/school to help defray the costs of professional travel outside the contiguous United States.
Awards may be funded up to a maximum of $500 toward one of two purposes: (1) travel to a remote site (e.g., a research lab or library at another institution) in order to engage in research or creative activity, or (2) travel to a professional convention to present the results of research or creative activity. Funding for this program comes, in part, from indirect costs generated by externally sponsored contract and grant activity at Illinois State University during the previous year. Therefore, it is expected that recipients of this support program will seek external funding if possible within their discipline. Continued and expanded grant activity will ensure the future availability of this support program.
The Office of the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences will award the Internal Travel Support awards. Applications from all tenured and tenure-track faculty members will be considered. Each proposal must include the endorsement of the faculty member's Chair/Director on the cover page of the proposal, indicating how much money the department/school has pledged toward the trip in question. If the trip is not being supported by the department/school because the applicant has already exhausted his/her travel allocation for previously reimbursed travel, the chair must so indicate and provide the amount of previous funding.
