Message from the dean to alumni
Welcome back to the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at Illinois State University! I have so enjoyed getting to know our alumni. Thank you for the loyalty and commitment you have shown our university and our college. Alumni are the backbone of Illinois State and the College of Arts and Sciences; you show us how important it is to maintain the quality education for which we are known, and you inspire us to be our best every day.
As CAS alumni, you are part of a great tradition of liberal education. You have learned in the humanities, the natural sciences, and the social sciences. You have acquired a breadth of knowledge and skills that are the hallmark of an arts and sciences education: the ability to analyze and interpret information, communicate effectively, and recognize different perspectives; and a lifelong desire to learn. These skills have served you well as you have established yourselves in a wide range of professions, and it is amazing to witness your successes.
Many of you return regularly to campus for Homecoming, Founders Day, or Alumni Day. I hope you will continue to come back often to see for yourself the great things we continue to do. If you have not had the opportunity to visit, I encourage you to visit us soon. I love meeting alumni and hearing memories of their time at Illinois State. Connections with alumni also benefit our current students, as you have expertise and experience that can guide students as they plan for their lives after graduation.
Don’t hesitate to contact me or anyone in the college office if we can assist you or if you have news to share. And please keep yourself apprised of the latest in CAS by following the college on Facebook and Instagram and by reading our monthly e-newsletter, CASNews. (If you aren’t currently receiving CASNews, contact Matt Wing at mjwing@IllinoisState.edu to subscribe.)
Our alumni have made the College of Arts and Sciences what it is today, and we hope you’ll continue engaging with us to help shape our college’s future. Thank you for your support of the College of Arts and Sciences!
Sincerely,
Heather Dillaway
Dean, College of Arts and Sciences
